I had no idea that I was looking at a 3,000 foot climb out of Fort Collins, but the road just kept going up. Finally I did a check to see how much more I had to climb. Here’s what I saw.
The blue at the top is an elevation profile. I’m at the top of that blue point now, looking forward to a twenty mile downhill.
So, you might be wondering, what is it like biking at this altitude? Well, the air is quite thin, but manageable. The wind is stiff at around 15 or 20 mph. Fortunately it’s a cross wind not a head wind, but it definitely makes for some extra work. The day is lovely with blue skies and now patches of clouds are appearing. Here’s some pictures of where I am.
It’s all quite amazing to this East Coaster.
Here’s some pictures from this morning.
Entering Wyoming.
This one is for Cliff.
One of these two should have pronghorn antelope. I’d never seen them before, but I think that’s what they are. I read all about them in fourth grade. They might be s bit hard to see.
Leaving Fort Collins yesterday
Ok that’s all for now. Be well!
Wow! Quite a day you’re having!!
Wow, Jon, love this blog! You are amazing to have gotten this far. The discourse on gear was very interesting. What do you carry to update the blog?
Hi Sue! Thanks for your note. The terrain is definitely getting more challenging as I get further west, but I’m still really enjoying the trip, since the landscape has been quite amazing as have most of the people.
The blog is powered by WordPress and there is an Android app that is super easy to use so I can update from my phone.
In my frame of reference your adventure is almost unbelievable. Congratulations for the courage!…
Thanks, much!
Anna gave us the blog address yesterday, will be great to follow your travels and share the stories and pictures. Take care,
Sam
Thanks. I’ll try to keep it interesting. In fact there is a major plot twist coming up. Stay tuned!
Well I’m finally up to date on your trip. You are amazing! So are all your pictures and narrative. I think I saw a pronghorn in the second pic when I enlarged it. It was very pixilated, but there was a definite antelope shape there! I can’t believe you remember about them from fourth grade! All I remember is my teacher’s name and that she was nice!
I’ll have to try to upload a full size version of that picture to see the pronghorn. I’m glad you’re fourth grade teacher was nice. Mine was pretty sleazy!
